New Movie Review

New Movie Reviews

  Back to blog Savanna Cordle

I have been on winter break for about a month now and have gone to movie theaters more in the past month than in the past year! So I figured I would do a little review of the new movies I’ve seen lately. Also, I should warn you, there are some spoilers in this post so reader beware!

Bumblebee

Before going to this, I had not seen any previews for it so I didn’t know what to expect. I was pleasantly surprised! It gives a good background into Bumblee’s (from Transformers) life and how he got to Earth. One of my favorite parts is the end when he has to go into hiding and changes into the mustang and Charlie (the main character) gets upset to find out he could have changed the whole time.

Aquaman

I love superhero movies, so I had to see the newest addition. I honestly don’t think I could choose DC or Marvel over one another. Both have some of my favorites like Captain America, Wonder Woman and Iron Man. Okay back to Aquaman… I again hadn’t watched the previews, but knew a little of him because of Justice League (another good movie). Figured it would be fun watch because who doesn’t want to see Jason Momoa shirtless?? There were parts that I didn’t see coming right away, like how the mother is alive after all this time and she was in hiding near the golden trident. Or that the Black Manta survives (conveniently for a sequel). Overall I really liked this new movie and thought it was great seeing a strong woman, Mera, being the brains behind the operation.

The Nutcracker and the Four Realms

I will say that I really didn’t and don’t know the story of the Nutcracker so it was a little confusing to me at first. I absolutely loved how smart Clara (Mackenzie Foy) is with tools and mechanics. That being said, it was really good and I did not see the ending coming right away. Like, who would have seen that the Sugar Plum Fairy is the evil one? And is using Mother Ginger as a pawn to rule the 4 realms? I sure didn’t. There is a part where there is actual ballet and ever since I was a little girl I have LOVED watching point ballet. So that was a highlight for me!

Mary Poppins Returns

I will start by saying I saw the original as a kid and felt like I needed to re-watch it before I went. The next thing I will say is you better buckle in for a long movie because I didn’t realize it was 2 hours and 10 minutes long. I was not mentally prepared for that. BUT that being said it was really good and my favorite scene/song is when they go into the bowl and are under the big tent. A Cover Is Not the Book is the song that I absolutely loved!
